Dear Blog,

Oh, how I've neglected thee for the endless goings on here in the "real world"! Long overdue an update, so do indulge...

I've been experencing and documenting a lot of art happenings courtesy Machine Project, Hammer Museum at UCLA, Liz Glynn at the Lincoln Heights Pyramid, Emily Joyce studio/screenprinting studio visit, Maggie White screenprinting workshop, Little William Theater, et al and endless LA <3 it

Tristan, Lynn, myself et al are preparing for Mary & Mary, yet unknown adventures in form and function and New Orleans and the Cape on dslr. Still photo/movie jobs here at home are B-flicks galore, legend of pulp Fred Olen Rae, a day on MegaShark vs Crocozoid, and a stylish day in Malibu with David Decoteau & co.

Good news- looks like my mom's new book will come out next year from Penn State press yay! She's brilliant, so lucky us.

I'm heading to Burning Man for fun in the dust at one of the craziest carnivals on Earth. WebZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs as of Monday the 30th I will away from phones and computers for a week, catch you on the flip!

Seeing double, or maybe just working double shifts : >

Little Birds wrapped, what a trip. I got to shoot Juno Temple, Leslie Mann, Kate Bosworth, acting/on set, director Elgin James, cinematographer Reed Morano... talented, fun and enduring crew and cast <3 Immediately after, picked up a crime/stripper thriller

The vMadonna set with Kirby and stylist PJ Olay is punky newness, and Machine Project posted all of my dreamy event stills from Dream In at UCLA's Hammer Museum. Also look for one of my Dream In pics printed in Art Forum, Summer 2010.

Neatorama posted an art-blog about my LA Daze project, yay!

Asylum has released some of my stills from the under-the-top low budg "thriller" TITANIC II on their site.

Suppose I should soonish take a moment to sleep.
In dreams...

A music blog interviewed [tlr] and ran some photos from our most recent shoot here. Pizza skirt armor by KtB of Insidious, Kt also blogged some bonus photos from the shoot.

Kaboom, the Gregg Araki movie I shot stills for, is going to Cannes. Yay Gregg! I'm shooting stills for two more movies at the end of this month, both destined for their share of "publicity"! Asylum's Comedy Central bound Cheerleader Camp has posted a set of my stills here, from looks it promises to be a teen-sex-comedy romp on par with their 2008 release 18 Year Old Virgin (yup).

Two shoots with Psycho Girlfriend have yielded lots of interesting images like such and such. Love Kasey and Vanessa (the designers), and extra thanks for loaning me a fantastically giant tutu for Alena and Geoff's nuptial spectacular. Mbbbw!
March 22, 2010
Asylum posted a set of my stills from Airline Disaster here. Featuring Meredith Baxter (Elyse Keaton) and Scott Valentine (Mallory's boyfriend) from Family Ties. !

Cindergarden imagery is making it's way far and wide including tlr's album review, and a print on exhibit for the rest of the month at Nathan Cartwright's Hive gallery.

Some of my photos of Lisa Papineau were included in this press release and this one, too. On Holiday (marianne and friends) is honored to play an opening set at Lisa's album release show Monday, May 3 at the Echo. Admission is free and Crooked Cowboy and the Freshwater Indians and Anubian Lights are also playing. I'll also be performing with CCB & FWI at the Echoplex, Friday April 2nd... fun dance show with Gram Rabbit, I think it's $10.

AOB live photos and a new interview with Rev. Al about Art of Bleeding for this month's Citizen LA music column. Hurray!

I'm off to haunt St Louis with the ghouls of Dapper Cadaver. Be back next week (3.29)!

Until then,

MW

Today I started shooting stills for another Aslyum feature. Short but crazy day on set. They posted some of my stills from Mega Piranha (starring Tiffany!) in a gallery here. Please note that the wildly popular cell phone pic is not one of mine.

Music news.. Mya Stark shot a new Crooked Cowboy video last Friday, a whisper of more collaborations from On Holiday and Cinder's label Looking Glass in the far and distant future... shhhhhhh...

[tlr] photographed and interviewed for Citizen LA music column, March 2010!

March brings film sets, birthday parties, Alice in Wonderland mania, beginning a documentary project on convention goers... and certainly more change, as 2010 has been a kinetic year of action and development. Oh, and did I mention bunnies, love and flowers? (+^+)

'til then,

January 10, 2010
2010, as of yet, has been all sunshine, hopping bunnies, espressos by the pool and art, so there. So much has gone on since my last "news" entry, I'm not sure where to start. One thing I know... I'm back in Los Angeles and I love it here.

My latest Citizen LA music column on Amanda Jo Williams is available for reading here.

Emily Lacy continues with her installation and performance project at the LACMA Japanese Pavillion. Shot some photos and hope to do some quiet vocal collaborations with her in the museum soon.

Shooting stills for Asylum's MEGA-PIRANHA starting tomorrow, surely will be fun as always with that motley crew <3

The massive Instant Gratification: A Polaroid Party opening went off at Copro Gallery without a hitch. Caught a quick portrait of curator Kevin Staniac here.

Also last night I shot wall art and some event photos for the overwhelming psychadelic art gallery Temple of VIsions in downtown LA.

Machine Project benefit (12.09) was a wild success, here's a gallery of my photos of the event.

Working with Lisa Papineau to create some lush and magical imagery to celebrate the US release of her album (Mau 2010). Yay!

Until then,
MW

Party time again..
Tonight, a set of original music for celeste et ibanez pocketband at Gorilla, 6520 Hollywood blvd at Wilcox, 11.30pm.
Tomorrow, 3 prints on exhibit at Psychopathia Erotica, a warehouse party in downtown LA.

A couple of days off from set bring D here on a surprise visit! <3 Mr. Araki's movie is in production and so far stunning as well as all consuming. Besides a few special gigs (including Emily Lacy at the LACMA Japanese Pavillion) I am devoted to the movie until I take off, until it is Autumn, Winter, and whatever comes after that. Like, maybe Spring? I've been in California so long, I forget the possibilities of seasons.

Until then it is camera rolling... sound speeds... ACTION...

August 26, 2009
I'm starry eyed and sleep deprived as hyper-active summer shifts into the extravagance of fall. Where to start... parties...

Playing music Friday night at Gorilla, 11:30pm, 6520 Hollywood Blvd
3 prints on exhibit at NightHawksLA on Saturday.

I've been slammed with shoots for bands, models, album art, and event/party photos. Seriously starry eyed. This summer's travels brought D and I from the underground cisterns of Istanbul to the Iowa State Fair, so no fear, work is balanced with fair measures of play ; >

I'm excited to be still photographer on the new Gregg Araki movie which goes into production mid-September.

Until then,
Marianne

I'm going bi-coastal! Starting in mid-September, I'll be residing mostly in New York City, though I'll still have my apartment in Los Angeles and will be available to take photo jobs here. Adventures.

I'm exhibiting 15 or so of my polaroid 600 series from 1994-2006 at the exhibit Instant Gratification at Hibbleton Gallery. The opening is Friday, August 7 from 7:00-11:00.

Photo... I photographed and interviewed songstress Emily Lacy for my music column and photographed artist/graffiti kid Smear for A. Moret's featured artist column, both for the August issue of Citizen LA. In the last week I've shot a fun flip book animation, a rapper's birthday party at Remedy Lounge and a Bolivian-Chinese Catholic wedding, as well as keeping busy working at Dapper Cadaver.

Music... I had a great show last night singing with Crooked Cowboy and crew at Footsie's in Highland Park, and will be performing some original instrumental music for celeste at 8.30 pm this Saturday (8.1) at the Hive Gallery in downtown.

I love summer in California! Pool parties, palm trees, sunglasses and sunny skies all around.

Eastern winds (and D) have swept me off my feet and carry me towards the small islands of Greece and thriving metropolis of Istanbul. I'll be back in Los Angeles on July 9.

In the meanwhile, look for my music column (interview + photo) available in LA on July 1. This month I shot the inimitable Romak of Romak and the Space Pirates. As well, my photo of the lovely artist Fumiko Amano runs as part of A. Moret's featured artist column.

I also have a piece showing at the Hive this month in the all photography middle room curated by Heidi Bluegirl. Opening party is July 3, always a time.

Happy father's day to my wonderful dad!

Until next...

Tonight, I recorded spooky vocals with Crooked Cowboy, Amanda and Brendan at Knob World in Silverlake. CCB and Samur are mixing at Seahorse tonight, hopefully it will be finished this week!

Dragonquest is out on DVD! omg.

My prints for Fever!, 3 photos from Aikchol Hospital in Chonburi, Thailand, are finished and framed. I'm ever so looking forward to the show, feat. Art of Bleeding, produced by Bluegirl.

I've also recently shot stills on the set of Limelight (tv show about dance academy?), architectural interiors for Ferrari Forge, a wedding in East LA.

On Holiday et les Filles Fée Verte are in production for the Feminine Oddities evening of burlesque/cabaret performances at the Hive. Full flyer and info here.

For sustenance, I've been working away at (another) jewelry catalogue, shooting graduations and private parties, set stills and editorial/fashion for the Pasadena Weekly. I've somehow found time in between to sneak off for short trips from Manhattan to Malibu, while plans for summer travel to Greece, Turkey, and Iowa are forming ; )

Totally excited to shoot two of the Art of Bleeding nurses, Jezebelle X and Radhika, for Dapper Cadaver tomorrow! Babes and blood, what else do you need?

April 19, 2009
Today Munchausen Group Projects started to work on a new feature titled D is for Daisies. Yay! I love it and I hope it gets made.

I am helping to produce les Filles Fée Verte (cabaret) at the Hive Gallery (downtown LA) on May 29, mark your calendars and look for details soon.

In the meantime, I'm showing a photo at the Hive through the month of May. Opening party is Saturday, May 2, 8pm-1am.

We are heading to San Francisco/Oakland this weekend to play at the big Industrial culture/Throbbing Gristle festival there as Crooked Cowboy & the Freshwater Indians. Also playing on the same night as LA homies Art of Bleeding! Fire safety at it's finest.

In LA, we're playing at La Cita on Wednesday, April 22.

I'll be in New York from 4.26-5.2, but reachable by email (marianne@halfasecondorless.com) and cell.

Citizen LA is running my interview and May Day photo session with Bjorn of Kawaiietly Please in the May 09 issue of Citizen LA. Sonic Death Rabbit interview/photo is currently on the stands, I think it's page 6.
March 29, 2009
I will be in the West Indies (that's right) from April 2-April 7. You can still reach me at marianne@halfasecondorless.com.

In LA it is Spring and everyone is fashion crazy. I shot BoxEIGHT fashion week including collections by COA, Future Heretics, MartinMartin, Laeken, Skingraft and UNIF, as well as backstage before and after several shows. Insidious Clothing had a crazy runway show at Club Sound and Vision for Katie's 09 creations, find a full set on my flickr.

Pasadena Weekly ran my snapshot of costume designer Danny Glicker as well as my photos from the Heritage Museum vintage fashion show with the fashion column by Karol Ann Bergman.

April music column is out and all about Sonic Death Rabbit

Elsewhere... some of my travel photos are up for sale on Getty Images now.

! time flies !

Hello <3

Transmorphers 2 wrapped last night! Asylum gets some great locations and in the 2 days at the abandoned mine/base out past Indio. Nobody died, so I'd say it was a huge success!

My interview and photo of Crooked Cowboy runs in the March Citizen LA, as well as my portrait of their featured artist Jay Brockman.

Music... I'm playing as On Holiday on Friday, March 13 at the Laemmle in Pasadena (shhh secret after midnight), with Crooked Cowboy on Saturday, January 28 at some gallery, and Friday, March 13 with Crooked Cowboy & the Freshwater Indians at the Echoplex. That's right- double header Fri the 13, don't sleep.

Getting ready for a shoot with Najma tomorrow afternoon and Jay on Sunday, but hoping/dreaming to get out and see some live music soon... like The Long Lost (Sunday 2.22 at the Panorama Theater) and Machinedrum (2.28 at bday party). You can certainly catch up with me at the Hive opening on March 7, as I have a piece up in the group show and according to them I need permission NOT to come.

Love from Hollywoodland,

MW

Paper Cuts magazine and Alt Noir magazine have both requested to run features of my photography in upcoming issues. Yay!

I've just finished the 2009 catalogue for BJ Winslow's Dapper Cadaver, a prop shop that specializes in horror, morgue/medical, and one of a kind oddities.

Also, select images of mine are now represented by Getty Images for stock sales.
January 12, 2009
I finished a look book for Inisidious Clothing, a custom line of metal/punk clothes designed and constructed by the lovely Katie Broad, and onto another look book for a very different label, Threads Studio, based out of the downtown LA fashion mart.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has requested one of my images taken inside the Met for their new "It's Time we Met" advertising capaign, in print and on the web starting February 2009.

Look for 2 or 3 of my images of LA noise/performance artist Kawaiietly Please in the Paper Cuts Records magazine, February 2009.

I've also had an 09 shoot with incredible author Vanna Bonta, who is always a pleasure to shoot and who, this time, left me with an arm full of the tastiest blood oranges known to California.

I am now a staff photographer for Pasadena Weekly. Look for my cover story next week, and check out Spanx A lot! which was published 12.24.08.

In music news, Crooked Cowboy shot a music video over two days which should be edited and up in a few weeks. We will be playing live at the Warpaint record release party tomorrow night (Jan 13) at the Echoplex. It's free, come check it out!

December 9, 2008

I will be performing as On Holiday, Saturday (12.13) around 9.30pm at Echo Curio in Echo Park.
